The first broadly announced session of Bullitt Book Club happens next week on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. As mentioned previously, it's a chance for readers to talk to some of the people who I worked with on this book project. Bullitt Book Club - Bullitt Time and Little Pieces (Tuesday, July 28, 2020, 8:00pm US Eastern time) Join my panel and me for some Bullitt discussion based on the contents of the Mustang Bullitt - Generations expanded edition. My guests are Brad Bowling, Kevin Marti, Sean Kiernan, and Ken Horstmann. Meet and chat with them about their contributions to the creation of Bullitt Time, the 24-page supplement bundled with Mustang Bullitt - Generations. Bullitt Time discusses Brad and Kevin's experiences with the two cars used in Bullitt's filming. The back cover of Bullitt Time provides a quick promotional preview of Little Pieces, the upcoming documentary about 559, the car previously owned by the Kiernan family. The first 20 people who send me their email address will get the link to the Zoom virtual meeting room. Whether you've read Mustang Bullitt - Generations and Bullitt Time or are considering a purchase, this is a great time to go behind the scenes and meet the people who make these publications engaging. The book is now available for order, and I am humbled and honored by the initial response. Since June 16, 2020, 279 copies out of 1000 available have been sold. Readers from countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and North America have purchased 214 expanded editions and 65 standard editions.
For those of you who would like more insight into book contents, I'll soon have a review page available with comments from several people who read a digital version of the book before it went to print. Matt Maranowski of Matt Maran Motoring provided his thoughts on the book in his June 26, 2020, YouTube video. He was one of the early readers, as well someone I interviewed for the book. I also want to provide an opportunity for people to hear from some of the interviewees I approached for my research. This book was a team effort, so look for some upcoming announcements on what I call the Bullitt Book Club. These are 45-minute virtual meetings where I host a panel of people who contributed to Mustang Bullitt - Generations and Bullitt Time, the supplement that is bundled to make the expanded edition. You will hear from people like Brad Bowling (author and historian of Bullitt hero car #559), Kevin Marti (Mustang expert), Sean Kiernan (former owner of #559), Bullitt owners, and Ford Motor Co. employees involved in each generation. Watch for a page to register for one of these sessions in the coming weeks. I am grateful to have been interviewed by Scott Pierce, the owner of Easy Street Garage and his YouTube channel of the same name. This 15-minute segment gives insight into why I tackled this project, plus some discussion about particulars in the book. There's a preview page available if you want to see inside. I wish you the best as you navigate your way through these challenging times of the pandemic. Thank you for your trust, which is given with every purchase made. Be well! The completed digital version of Mustang Bullitt - Generations was sent to the printer on May 15, 2020, and is now in the production process. The Bullitt Time supplement, part of the expanded edition, is in the final stages of digital creation and should be with the printer in the next two weeks. I can't wait for the finished products to be available for ordering and shipment! Extra precautions are being taken to ensure the production and handling are being conducted as safely as possible during the ongoing pandemic. As a result, the final ordering information won't be available until the week of June 15, 2020. If everything proceeds according to plan, the ordering will open up sometime that week from this website. Thank you for your patience as we get nearer to general availability.
In the meantime, please take a look at the following preview of the Mustang Bullitt - Generations book contents. The Mustang’s 56th anniversary will go down as an unusual one with the global pandemic. Many enthusiasts would be gathering to celebrate this automotive milestone. Instead virtual car shows and club meetings fill the void of not being together. Mustang Bullitt – Generations preparations have sped up, just like Frank Bullitt pursuing the Dodge Charger in his green 1968 Mustang fastback. I’ve been navigating the pandemic situation with help from Ertel Publishing, and in particular, Brad Bowling, hero car 559’s historian. We’ve been working to meet the July 18, 2020, release date in conjunction with the Bullitt Nationals event in Pontiac, Illinois. However, depending on how the pandemic situation evolves, it looks like the release date might be earlier. The official ordering announcement will be forthcoming. This book will be available worldwide. I am excited to announce some details about the book today. Mustang Bullitt – Generations will be a 144-page full-color, softcover book, priced at $30 US. The narrative explores the evolution of three generations of the Mustang Bullitt feature cars released as 2001, 2008-09, and 2019-20 models. These models are packed with the DNA from the 1968 Mustang fastback featured in the movie Bullitt. Stories and photos from Ford Motor Co. engineers, designers, and marketers involved in their creation demonstrate how the Bullitt DNA was applied to the cars’ styling and performance. Owners responded passionately to each generation upon their release. Their stories are included because the ownership experience adds to the worldwide phenomenon of "cool" surrounding Ford Motor Co.’s three special editions. Sidebars in the book explore interesting stories that sprang up as each model was released – for example, where is the 2000 Mustang Bullitt Concept now, where was Bullitt hero car when the 2008 model was released, etc. The 50th anniversary of the movie Bullitt’s release in 2018 was a pivotal year. Both Mustangs used in the film were in the public eye again. A special, expanded edition of Mustang Bullitt – Generations will be available for $45 US, bundled with a full-color 16-page booklet written by author Brad Bowling and Mustang expert Kevin Marti. Only 450 copies will be available worldwide. Bullitt Time takes the reader on Bowling and Marti’s respective journeys as the movie cars were revealed. Enclosed in a resealable, archivist quality clear poly bag, each expanded edition bundle includes a commemorative decal that references the VIN of the Bullitt car previously owned by the Kiernan family. Please check the website, follow on Instagram or Twitter, or join the mailing list to get the latest information. In the meantime, I wish you good health and a happy National Mustang Day!
